RESERVOIR ELEVATIONS AND RIVER FLOWS ANTICIPATED TO RISE
IN THE HUDSON RIVER AREA

(MAYFIELD, NY)  The elevation of Great Sacandaga Lake, and the flow of the Hudson and Sacandaga Rivers may rise.  In response to anticipated increased runoff and a high volume of inflow to Great Sacandaga Lake (GSL) over the next week, on April 10, 2008, the Hudson River-Black River Regulating District began releasing water from GSL at a rate of  7800 cubic feet per second (cfs), (over 58,000 gallons per second), exceeding the targeted maximum flow limitations for the Hudson River as prescribed in Section 3, Table D of the Offer of Settlement.  On April 9, 2008 the Regulating District had identified the need to deviate from the flow limitations provided in the Upper Hudson / Sacandaga River Offer of Settlement in accordance with Section 3.6.1 Exceptions to Operation for Aggressive Use of Storage.

Based on National Weather Service flow forecasts for the Sacandaga River at Hope and the Hudson River at Hadley, as well as a precipitation forecasts, the Regulating District identified the potential for continued increase in GSL reservoir elevation in excess of elevation 773.0 between April 10 and April 17, 2008.
